To be an Ohio High School Athletics Association (OHSAA) basketball official, you must take a class and pass 2 separate tests. This will qualify you to be a Class 3 or Class 2 official (depending on your age). Class 2 officials can officiate Jr. High, Freshman, and Junior Varsity boys and girls games. After 2 years of officiating, 2 peer reviews by Class 1 officials, and the passing of 2 additional tests, Class 2 officials can become Class 1 officials and are eligible to officiate Varsity level events.

In addition to the one-time education qualifications above there are annual commitments. Every official must pay an annual fee to OHSAA, join and pay dues to a basketball association (such as GCBOA, Inc.), attend 1 State-sponsored meeting (and potentially pass a test on new rules), and attend 4 association-sponsored meetings.

Upon successful completion of this class and the passing of 2 exams, students will become a state-certified Class 2 or Class 3 basketball official and a member of the Greater Cincinnati Basketball Officials Association, Inc!
