Tom Ballaban “Outstanding Official” Award

Established in 2001, the Tom Ballaban “Outstanding Official” Award was created to recognized an official who exemplifies the highest level of basketball officiating excellence.

Mr. Tom Ballaban was a highly respected individual of the Greater Cincinnati basketball and football arena’s. Tom served as the head football coach at St. Xavier High School from 1953 to 1977, winning 3 GCL championships in that time. Tom also coached the St. Xavier Bombers basketball team from 1951 to 1954, winning a district championship and two GCL championships (one as a co-champion).

The officiating career of Mr. Ballaban was equally impressive as his coaching career. Tom was inducted into the Ohio High School Athletic Association Officials Hall of Fame in 1992 for his outstanding career in both football and basketball officiating. Tom has also been recognized in other associations for his officiating expertise. Tom Ballaban was an outstanding official, and it’s in his honor that this award was established.
